Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated the callers:

The administration at Lyman Hall needs to get a backbone. They let the parents and the students run the school. Get a backbone or move on. You don’t stand behind your staff.

The reason the city inspectors can’t do their jobs is because they’re too busy riding around looking at who is cutting down tree limbs.

I ask the chief of police and the mayor, why is it that our police department does not do investigations into car thefts, home invasions and things like that? The only thing they do is show up, make a written report and take statements. They do not take fingerprints or do any further investigations.

I’m so sick and tired of seeing people swipe those welfare cards. Get a job. Quit living off welfare. If I was starving, I would never accept welfare.

Welfare is a career for some people. You didn’t know that? You look around and watch all these people on the first to the fifth and in the middle of the month, swiping those cards for all that food — they’re on welfare.

If the city of Hinesville police would let their officers carry Tasers like every other police agency in the United States, no officer would have been hurt in the attempted bank robbery the other day and they wouldn’t have to rely on the county to show up and Taser the suspect.
