Here are some of the issues that area residents are discussing. The statements were phoned in anonymously, so the Courier does not vouch for their veracity, nor do we know what motivated  the callers:

I hope the man I vote for for sheriff will put a deputy at 84 and 196. These folks on 196 making a right are just too dangerous.

I want to commend the four city councilmen for what they are trying to do. They sent back the budget, asking that the millage rate be held at 9.5 percent and with no furloughs.

I’m glad that our president, Barrack Obama, has extended the olive branch to his enemies and those who just spitefully say things about him.

Well, I see you finally got some soccer pictures in, but I would have liked to have seen some of the championship, the Rage and the Crusaders. It had to be a shootout. The Rage has not lost any of their games and that should have been in the paper.
Editor’s note: We would have liked to have received that information and photos, too.

I want to go to work in Long County, where if you fail out of the police academy, they’ll buy you a brand new truck to drive around in.

Cut the budget, all right. Cut the assistant manager, the assistant to the assistant manager. Cut downtown development and her assistant. Stop all city vehicles from driving home. Cut public relations. Cut those stupid buses out.

Regarding the Hinesville budget, the state employees take furlough days, what difference is the city? They need to get in on this budget cut, too.
