Bamboo Farm to host fall festival

SAVANNAH — The Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens will have a Fall Family Festival from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
Sponsored by the Friends of Coastal Gardens, the fundraiser will include plant vendors, arts and crafts vendors, pony rides, hayrides, a petting zoo, face painting, educational booths and a Department of Natural Resources hands-on wildlife exhibit. Ronald McDonald will be in the Cottage Garden at 11 a.m. for a free magic show for children.
Patrons can visit with firefighters and tour fire engines or meet the crew from mosquito control. The audience can also watch as sugar cane is crushed, strained and boiled into pure cane syrup that will be available for sale.
A lecture on by Dr. Greg Fonsah on growing bananas is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in the banana patch. Chatham County UGA Extension Agent Dave Linvill will speak on “growing green” at 10:30 a.m.
The snack bar will sell hamburgers, hotdogs, roast pork sandwiches, roasted sweet potatoes and other. Al Cox will once again be smoking pork butts over a wood fire. These butts can be ordered to go for $20 each.
Admission to the festival is free, but there will be a $2 charge for parking. Some activities are free while others have a small per-person charge.
