Canoe trip near Darien this weekend

The staff at Fort King George in Darien is organizing a canoe trip to Lewis Island for Saturday.
Participants will meet up at 10 a.m. at state historic site’s museum near Darien.
The trip will begin Saturday morning, embarking from the Altamaha River Camp, venturing about eight miles down river to Lewis Island where campers we will “tough” it out under the stars. The following morning, the trip will resume another 8 miles down river into Darien. There will be guided interpretation along the way.
The price is $65 and canoes, paddles and life jackets will be provided. Participants are responsible for food, tents, and other camping accommodations. The trip will only occur if weather and water temperature are appropriate.
