“Gullah cuisine is seasonal, and is pulled from the land and sea at a very specific time of year,”  Chef Dennis said. As descendants of West African slaves, the Gullah made their homes in extremely rural areas of the low country. Because they were so often isolated, the Gullah could keep many of the culture influences, aspects of the cuisine and language of their West African ancestors.
