Colonial holiday at Fort Morris

Winter muster at McAllister Fort McAllister in Richmond Hill will have a winter muster and battle from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. Visitors can spend the day at the fort watching Union and Confederate soldier re-enactors prepare for the battle of Shermans March to the Sea. On Saturday, Dec. 11, visitors to Fort Morris State Historic Site will celebrate the holidays as they were observed during the country’s colonial period, long before Rudolf and malls were around.
From 5-8 p.m., interpreters and volunteers in historical attire will fire Christmas muskets as a holiday salute, musician Jamie Keena will raise the spirits of visitors with live colonial Christmas music, the Christmas Story will be read and the traditional yule log, representing warmth and light, will be thrown into a Christmas bonfire that will be lit around twilight.
Carolers will sing period songs and colonial refreshments will be passed around the fire. A dance will close out the festive evening and everyone will be invited to join in the fun.
