Garden walk on historic island

ST. SIMONS ISLAND -- The Cassina Garden Club welcomes spring by hosting its second annual Tabby & Tillandsia Garden Walk Weekend, May 2-4, to benefit the preservation and maintenance of the circa 1804 tabby slave cabins on beautiful and historic Gascoigne Bluff.
Events include tours of eight private gardens on Sea Island and St. Simons and speaker Steve Bender, author and senior writer for Southern Living magazine. Docents will be in each garden to highlight unusual plant material and art. Several gardens will feature local artists painting the landscape and performances by musicians.
New this year will be the Tabby & Tillandsia Garden Market featuring a variety of plants, accessories and art from vendors throughout the Southeast. The Garden Market is free and open to the public. Tickets for the Walk are available on-line at www.cassinagardenclub.org/gardenwalk.htm.
Tickets for the walk cost $25 in advance, $30 the day of. Tickets for Steve Bender's presentation at 5:30 p.m. May 2 are $25.
Tickets are available at businesses on the island, including Pat's Hallmark in Brunswick.
