Golf scramble fight domestic violence

Register by Oct. 26 for the “Get TEE’d Off With Domestic Violence” Garrison Golf Scramble, which will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Oct. 28 at Taylors Creek Golf Course.

Col. Kevin Milton, garrison commander, will host the tourney in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Show your support for the cause – “Together We Can End Domestic Abuse: Act Now!”

Play will be limited to the first 25 four-person teams. The cost is $35 per soldier, retiree, Army civilian and Taylors Creek or Hunter Club member, and $45 per civilian guest.

Rock Power Lifting and Bench Press

Military ID cardholders, 16 and older, are invited to compete in The Rock Power Lifting and Bench Press Competition starting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Newman Fitness Center.

The registration costs $15 and will be accepted until Saturday. Register at Newman Fitness Center.

Weigh-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the competition will follow at 10. 

In the bench press competition, contestants will be placed into one of 12 weight classes and must complete a bench press to qualify for an award. Each competitor will attempt three lifts. The highest overall weight lifted will determine the winner in each class.

In the power lifting competition, each competitor must complete a lift in all three lifts (bench press, squat and dead lift) to qualify for an award. Each competitor will be given three lifts per event, for a total of nine lifts. To determine the final place of the competitor, the top three lifts will be combined for a total weight lifted. Awards will be presented to the top lifters using the Schwartz-Malone Power Lifting Formula.

Favorites on Thunder Run Menu

American favorites, one of four Internationally Inspired Cuisine Night offerings, are on the menu Wednesday at Club Stewart’s Thunder Run restaurant. Next  week will feature Italian dishes.

Other foods on the rotating menu are Latin, German and American favorites.

Service is every Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Thunder Run. The cost is $9.95 per adult and half-price for children ages 5-10. There is no charge for children 4 and under.

Halloween Story Day at Hays Library

College Probe at Bradwell Institute

The Fort Stewart/Liberty County Schools 2011 College Probe will be held at Bradwell Institute from 8:45-11:45 a.m. on Oct. 27.

More than 60 college and technical school representatives will be on hand to provide assistance. Financial aid experts will have information on tuition assistance and the Georgia HOPE Scholarship.

The event is a great opportunity to learn more about post secondary options.

College Probe is open to high school students, Soldiers, Family Members and residents of local communities.

Toddler Halloween bowling in costume

After “Toddler Time” at Cypress Sam’s Treehouse, toddlers and their parents are invited to come across the street to Stewart Lanes Bowling Center, building 450, for a great party day of costumes and bowling from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 28.

Stewart Lanes will provide the decorations and the drinks (how about a Capri Sun?).  All you need to do is bring your toddlers, cupcakes or snacks and costumed characters. The cost for bowling is $1 per game and shoe rental is $1. For more information, call 912-767-4273.

 

Musical & Ice Cream Parlor Visit

CYSS-registered youth in grades 5-12 will experience the “Return to the 50’s” musical at the Savannah Theatre, America’s oldest continuously operated theater, and visit an old-time ice cream parlor Nov. 5 during the Youth Sponsorship trip to Savannah.

Registration will be accepted until Nov. 3. The trip is free, except for the ice cream.

The group will depart from Fort Stewart Youth Center at 1 p.m. and from Hunter School Age Services at 2 p.m.

Youth to visit veterans at VA center

The CYSS/Youth Sponsorship Veteran’s Day Visit to the Dublin VA Center will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 11. CYSS-registered youth in grades 5-12 may take part in the Veteran’s Day program and have lunch at the center.

The free trip offers a unique opportunity for military-connected youth to visit with disabled veterans. Registration will be accepted until Nov. 9.

Time Bowling, Red Pin Bowling at Hunter Lanes

Like to bowl fast?  Come on to Hunter Lanes, building 1280, on Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. One person or a group can bowl for $15 for one hour. Shoe rental is $2 per person. The special is good during October.

And from 7-11 p.m. on Saturdays, you might just win a free game during Red Pin Bowling. When a red pin appears in the No. 1 position, bowl a strike and win a free game. The cost is $3 per game and $2 for shoe rental.

Sign-ups Start Nov. 3 for Hunter Skeet/Trap Event

Registration begins Nov. 3 for Hunter Army Airfield’s quarterly Skeet/Trap Shoot Event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Hunter Skeet/Trap range, building 8250 off South Perimeter Road.

Mossy Oak Gun Club will pay the registration fee for the first 15 soldiers who register. The Soldiers need only bring a shotgun (or request one from Outdoor Recreation), and purchase shells.

The cost is $25 for skeet or trap (50 birds); or $40 for skeet and trap (100 birds). Lunch is included. Sign-ups will be accepted on the day of the event, beginning at 9 a.m.

Safety briefing and flights set-up will begin at 9:45 a.m. Three fields will be utilized, two for skeet and one for trap, and flights will be fired every 45 minutes starting at 10 a.m.  Prizes will be awarded after the shoot, including winners and door prizes. Participants must be present to win.

The competition will include:

Skeet division (50 birds) – expert, intermediate, novice, youth and ladies.  

Trap – one division (50 birds), with all skill levels combined.

Skeet and Trap- one division (100 birds), all skill levels combined.
