I’m still your personal film critic, but today we’re going to switch things up just a little bit. Rather than review a movie that I’ve already seen, I’d like to preview three brand new films that will premiere this month. After all, if you don’t know what’s coming soon, then how will you know what to watch?
First on my list of upcoming films is the “The Tourist,” starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. The romantic thriller happens when Jolie, a sophisticated British babe, entangles Depp, an American tourist in Italy in the wrong place at the right time, in her web of intrigue. It’s out Dec. 10.
Also out Dec. 10 is “The Fighter,” a boxing drama starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale and Amy Adams. I’m a sucker for a good boxing movie, my favorite of which is probably the terribly sad “Million Dollar Baby.”
“The Fighter” is already making Oscar buzz, but don’t expect to see a dashing Bale here. His character is a far cry from Batman. Wahlberg, on the other hand, trained for two years for this role.
Lastly, science-fiction fans are eagerly awaiting the Dec. 17 release of “Tron Legacy,” the sequel of a 1982 film. The plot begins when Garret Hedlund’s character Sam starts looking into the disappearance of his father. He finds out his dad, portrayed by Jeff Bridges, has been sucked into a sophisticated video game and has been living there for 25 years.
Sam is transported to the same world and along with actress Olivia Wilde’s character, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.
There you have it: three great coming attractions. I’ll see you at the movies.
