The historical cemetery at Midway is running spooky tours of the famous landmark Oct. 28-29 to celebrate Halloween. Starting around dusk at 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday evenings, Midway Museum tour guides will lead visitors around the cemetery, which dates back to the 1750s.

Many distinguished people are buried there, including Gens. Stewart and Screven from the American Revolution as well as the LeContes and the Rev. C.C. Jones Sr. of the “Children of Pride” book.

A limited number of tickets are available at a cost of $6 for adults and $3 for children. Special family tickets are $15 for two adults and two children. Discounts of $1 per person are available for the military, students and senior citizens. Tickets are being sold in advance at the Midway Museum in the heart of the Midway Historic District, across the road from the cemetery. Reservations are required. On the evenings of the tours, tickets will be sold in front of the Midway Church starting at 5 p.m.

Diane Kroell, executive director of the Midway Museum, is organizing the Halloween tours.

“These tours are a fun way to get the whole family interested in the revolutionary and colonial history, which is on our doorstep in Midway,” she said. “Although we cannot guarantee any of the cemetery’s ghosts will appear.

“Why not make time this year to also visit the Midway Museum, which charmingly recreates life as it would have been lived in a typical planter’s cottage in the 1750s-1870s and exhibits rare artifacts from the colonial era.”
