The organizers of this year's second annual Ricefest, to be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 8 in downtown Riceboro, are planning big improvements for the festival they launched successfully last year.
Riceboro Mayor Bill Austin said, "We are lining up a lot of great sponsors and I think this year's festival is going to be outstanding."
Hampton Island is
supporting the festival this year and is furnishing a variety of bonuses for advertisers, such as a two couples massage packages for the island's Tree House Spa.
Ricefest is a family-oriented festival commemorating the culture and community life created by rice harvests from the 1760s to the early 1900s.
Festivities include a rice cook-off, harvest demonstration, crafts, displays, discussions about rice culture memories, live music, gospel singing, steppers, rhythmic shouters and activities for children.
For more information, call Bianca Croft at 213-3029, or Riceboro City Hall at 884-2986.
