The Liberty Theatre Company, in conjunction with the Hinesville Area Arts Council, will debut its original production, “Pieces of Home,” on March 12 at the Liberty Performing Arts Center in Flemington. Brian Rothwell, a longtime teacher at Bradwell Institute, and Jennifer Buehler, who most recently starred in the company’s “Steel Magnolias,” will direct the play.
The show will focus on found letters from actual soldiers at then-Camp Stewart during World War II. Leah Poole compiled and wrote the play.
“It is exciting to see something like this actually come to fruition. Never having been in a play myself, I am in awe of the level of dedication that these folks have to their acting,” Poole said.
The cast wasn’t named until early January. Charlene Parlett, Eddie Hodge, Jasmine Kersey, Jeff Dodge and Amy Simpson will perform. The production also will feature a large crew that has banded together to see a real piece of Liberty County history come to life.
“It will be a tremendous experience for the audience, or at least that’s what we’re shooting for,” Buehler said.
The theater will open for seating at 7 p.m., and the show will begin at 7:30. Tickets are available in advance for $10 at www.hinesvillearts.com or by going to the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority (inside the old jail on Main Street) or the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce (on the corner of Ryon Avenue and Highway 84).
