Sgt. Kevin Cherry of the 3rd ID Band will perform a solo tribute to the late Michael Jackson during the 2010 U.S. Army Soldier Show.
The 2010 U.S. Army Soldier Show, a song-and-dance production featuring a variety of genres, is coming to Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in October.
Two Fort Stewart soldiers are among this year’s cast of performers. They are Sgt. Kevin Cherry of the 3rd ID Band and Spc. Alvaro Loaiza of the 92nd Chemical Company.
Cherry’s performance includes a solo tribute to the late Michael Jackson. Loaiza plays the keyboard in a number of songs and scenes and wrote an original composition for his finale.
The show, which revolves around current social-media phenomena, is at 7 p.m. Oct. 5-6 at Newman Fitness Center on Stewart and at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Tominac Fitness Center on Hunter. There is no charge and the public is invited.
Cherry said this year’s show includes rock, pop, R&B, hip hop, jazz and country songs. “There’s a lot of choreography and a lot of quick costume changes from scene to scene. This is not a show to miss,” he said.
In addition to Loaiza on keyboard, the show will include soldier-musicians on guitar, bass and drums.
The show will open with Disturbed’s heavy metal anthem “Indestructible,” which band members say was written to inspire soldiers headed into battle. “It’s meant to be something that would make them feel invincible, take away their fear, make them strong,” lead vocalist David Draiman said.
This is Cherry’s second tour with the Soldier Show. He also participated in 2004.
Soldier Show Production Director Victor Hurtado said he is impressed with this year’s performers. “When I hear them sing together, it’s like the most glorious choir,” he said. “People are going to be just shocked by how good they are.”
The 2010 U.S. Army Soldier Show is sponsored by the U.S. Army G-1’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention (SHARP) Program; and the U.S. Army’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness (CSF) Program.
