The 2012 U.S. Army Soldier Show, a high-energy, fast-paced 90-minute song-and-dance production featuring a cast and crew made up entirely of active duty soldiers, is coming to Fort Stewart on May 8.

Residents of Savannah and other communities in the area surrounding the home of the 3rd Infantry Division are invited to the show, which will be presented at Newman Fitness Center starting at 7 p.m.

The show is free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The performance at the fitness center is the only one scheduled for the Stewart/Hunter Army Airfield installation this year.

As always, sections of the show are dedicated to legends of the entertainment industry, such as Etta James. Another blast into the past features a segment accentuating musical eras of the 1920s, ’40s, ’50s and ’60s, capped with the Rolling Stones’ classic “Satisfaction.”

“The motivation for that was ‘Moves like Jagger,’” said Soldier Show artistic director Victor Hurtado. “We love that song.” That tune is by Maroon 5, featuring Christina Aguilera.

Also among the featured performers is SPC Tiffani Lindstrom, a vocalist with the 3rd Infantry Division Band at Fort Stewart. She teams up with Staff Sgt. Melvin Williams Jr. in singing Etta James’ “At Last” for one of her numbers.

Among other songs are Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time,” Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be,” and Lady Gaga’s “Edge of Glory” and “Marry the Night.”

The 2012 Soldier Show unveils a state-of-the-art, high-resolution LED video wall – 13 feet tall by 28 feet wide – featuring photographs of Army life on a virtual backdrop revolving from scene to scene and song to song.

Visitors to Fort Stewart should enter through Gate One on General Screven Way in Hinesville. Drivers must present proof of insurance, vehicle registration and a valid driver’s license. Passengers should present identification with photo.

The Soldier Show is not funded with taxpayer dollars, but with non-appropriated funds generated from Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation business programs and with corporate sponsorship. The 2012 U.S. Army Soldier Show is sponsored by Army G-1’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program (SHARP).

The show launched its five-month, 60-show tour April 19-21 at the newly renovated historic Fort Sam Houston Theatre, new home of Army Entertainment Division.
