Statesboro water park opens on May 20

Splash in the Boro Waterpark will open for its first weekend May 20-21. However, due to construction delays, the Wave Pool will not open then.

"As with any construction, there can be delays," said Mike Rollins, Statesboro Bulloch County Parks and Recreation director. "Our contractors are working hard to complete this extensive project."

With the Wave Pool not opening on what the SBCPRD, which operates the waterpark, considers a trial run weekend, 2016 prices will be in effect for that weekend.

"We treat this first weekend as a soft opening — letting staff acclimate to the environment and finding out if and where we need to tweak anything," said Justin Blanton, Splash in the Boro’s new aquatics division manager.

"We have several part-time staff returning this year, which will be a huge help to our full-time staff and the operations as a whole."

"While Justin has extensive experience, each aquatics facility is different, so he will be continuing to learn during this season as well," said Rollins.

Rollins said the opening of the Wave Pool is in large part up to Mother Nature

"We just can’t predict weather or how it will affect things like the curing of the paint on the Wave Pool," he said. "Unfortunately, those types of things affect the entire operation and we are sometimes at the mercy of the elements."

At this time, Splash in the Boro cannot give a date as to when the Wave Pool will open. While the previous year’s prices will be in effect until further notice, prices will increase for the remainder of the season once the Wave Pool opens.

Splash in the Boro admission prices are based on height. Until the Wave Pool opens, the admission prices will be as follows:

• For children and adults under 48 inches tall, tickets are $10.99

• For children and adults over 48 inches tall, the tickets are $13.99.

Once the Wave Pool opens, the admission prices will be as follows:

• For children and adults under 48 inches tall, tickets will be $13.99

• For children and adults over 48 inches tall, tickets will be $18.99.
