Big Buck Contest Sign-up Under Way
Register now for a chance to win cash for the largest buck harvested on Fort Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield. Registration will continue until Oct. 21.
Early registration fees are in effect until Sept. 9. They are $25 for active duty, retired and family members, and $35 for civilians. Beginning Sept. 10, the fee will be $30, and $40 for civilians.
All deer harvested must be turned in to the Fish & Wildlife Branch, during their operating hours, for scoring.

Outdoor Pools Schedules Changing
Schedules for the Fort Stewart and Hunter outdoor pools have been announced as follows:
Bryan Village Pool closes for the season Wednesday. Call 767-2701 for more information.
Also starting Aug. 3, Corkan Pool is open weekends only until Labor Day, when it will close for the season. Hours will be 11:30 to 8:30 p.m. Call 767-8575 for more information.
Beginning Aug. 21, Hunter Army Airfield outdoor pool will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekends only until Labor Day, when it will close for the season. Call (912) 315-5786 for more information.

Bowling for a World Record at Stewart Lanes
Games bowled at Stewart Lanes Saturday will be tallied with games across the nation as part of a National Bowling Week effort to set a world record for the most games bowled in a single day.
Stewart Lanes will be open from 11 a.m. Saturday until 9 p.m. Sunday for its "Marathon Bowling" Bowl a Million event. Surprise games and prizes will be part of the fun.
The cost is $1.75 a game and $1.75 for shoe rental. Also, bowlers can go online to gobowling.com to get a coupon for one free game.

Hunter GC Golf Scramble
The Hunter Garrison Commander's 4-person Golf Scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Aug. 12 at Hunter Golf Club. The first 25 four-person teams will play. Register your team by Aug. 10.
The cost is $35 for Taylors Creek and Hunter Golf Club members, active duty, retirees and Army civilians, $45 for civilian guests.

Jaguars season tickets on sale
Jacksonville Jaguars 2011 season tickets are on sale at Leisure Travel Services Offices on both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
This year, a limited supply of end zone tickets are available for $60 per person. Regular season tickets in are also available for $43 per person.

CYSS Youth Sports Registration
Registration for tackle football/cheerleading and fall soccer will close Aug 15 or when all slots are filled.
Registration is open to CYSS members on and off-post. Football is open to ages 7-12 (as of Aug. 1), cheerleading is open to ages 6-13 (Dec 31) and soccer is open to ages 4-13 (Aug 1).

Unit/Company Level Intramural Bowling Tournament
Unit/company level teams of four players each are invited to compete in a tournament starting at 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 18 at Marne Lanes Bowling Center.

Trophies will be awarded for high average/score team, plus individual awards (highest average scorer, highest game scored, and most strikes in a row).

Operation Rising Star contestant sign-up
Singers from Stewart and Hunter can sign up to compete in Operation Rising Star, the Army's version of "American Idol," at Rocky's Zone.
The free competition is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is open to active duty, National Guard or Reserve from any branch of service, or family members who are at least 18. The sign-up deadline is Aug. 26.
The local Operation Rising Star opens its 2011 competition at Rocky's on Aug. 30. Subsequent rounds will be on Sept. 6 and 13, with the finals scheduled for Sept. 20.
The first-place winner will receive $500 and advance to the 2011 finals. Second place will get $250 and third place will receive $100. The Army-wide winner will get an all expense paid, three-day professional recording studio experience in Los Angeles.
The Spirit Award - $300 toward the fund of the unit or family readiness group - will go the best supportive unit or FRG. Any unit or FRG may compete regardless of contestant participation. Support will be determined each night of the contest by level of applause.

Pass & Permit Wildlife Photo Contest
Registration is under way for the Wildlife Photo Contest to be Nov. 16 at the Fort Stewart Pass & Permit Office, building 8093. Registration will close Nov. 3.
The theme is wildlife photography. Please, no photos of pets. Photo dimensions are four by six inches or larger and there is no limit to the quantities entered.
The contest is open to amateur photographers and entry fees are $5 (ages 2-15) per photo and $10 (16 and older) per photo.
