STATESBORO — Visitors to the Georgia Southern University Museum will learn that going easy on the environment can also be easy on the wallet.
The museum’s newest exhibit, Sustainable Solutions, opened Tuesday with examples of how our ecological footprint impacts the world and how we can “be green while saving green” by making technology and lifestyle choices for a greener world.
“I want people to walk away with simple solutions and to realize that we have the power to make simple changes to live in a sustainable way,” said Lissa Leege, director of the Georgia Southern Center for Sustainability and curator of the exhibit. “This is a very positive, solution-oriented exhibit with lots of interactive exercises.”
Visitors will have the chance to calculate their own ecological footprint — their individual impact on the environment through day-to-day activities — and will visit six different stations.
The stations will focus on solutions for a greener approach to waste, water, energy, food, construction and biodiversity.
An operational solar panel was donated by MAGE SOLAR USA . The company is a solar module manufacturer and complete solar PV-system provider with American headquarters in Dublin, Georgia.
The solar panel will be assembled in front of the Museum and used to power household items inside the exhibit.
Sustainable Solutions is sponsored in part by Pearson Publishing. A reception welcoming the exhibit to the Museum will be open to the public on Feb. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m.
The exhibit will run through May 13. Visitors can gain free admission if they donate a pair of denim jeans, which will be recycled into insulation.
