Travel show is next week
Weekly FMWR briefing for March 3-9

The Travel Show and Community Showcase is set for March 11 on Stewart and March 12 on Hunter.

The showcase will be 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. both days. Club Stewart will host the show at Stewart and Hunter Club will host Hunter's. There will be a drawing for a Leisure Travel voucher valued at $400. There is no charge.

The showcase provides an opportunity to learn all about everything area communities offer, plus vacation getaways. Learn about great day trips, attractions in neighboring states, Leisure Travel trips, Disney World and Universal Studios.

Teen Program closes Saturdays  

The Middle School/Teen Program in the Youth Activity Center on Hunter is no longer offered on Saturdays. The change, effective March 1, was due to low participation.

Bowling Center hours

Marne Bowling Center on Fort Stewart has new hours, effective March 1.

The new hours are Monday-Wednesday from11 a.m.-10 p.m., Thursday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m., Friday/Saturday from 11 a.m.-midnight and Sunday/holidays from 1p.m.-9 p.m.

T-ball, baseball

Register by March 14 to be a part of Hunter Youth Sports’ T-Ball and Baseball program. T-ball is for ages 5-6, coach pitch for 7-8, fast pitch for 9-10, and Little League for 11-12.

Play begins in late April on Hunter, YMCA and Chatham County fields.

The cost is $30 per person. Participants must be CYSS registered.

Bass tournament

A Catch & Release Bass Tournament will begin at 6:30 a.m. March 15 at Pineview Lake at Fort Stewart.

Cash prizes are $250 for first-place and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes will be awarded.

Anglers can fish from the bank or bass boat (trolling motors only). No live bait will be permitted.

Participants must have state and Stewart fishing permit (unless age 15 and under). Fees vary and are based on registration.

The tournament is open to everyone, even civilians.

Scuba diving course

Learn to Scuba dive with BOSS and First Coast Divers of Jacksonville, March 21-23.

Classroom training will be at Stewart Education Center March 21 and open water dives will be March 22-23 at Florida Freshwater Springs in Jacksonville.

The $445 per person cost includes materials, gear, training, trip, hotel stay and barbecue lunches Saturday and Sunday.

3-on-3 basketball

Newman Fitness Center on Fort Stewart will host a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament March 25-27. A minimum of 10 teams is needed.

Teams will compete in the double elimination, self-officiated, half-court contest. The winning team will get $300.

The tournament is open to all DOD cardholders and guests 17 and older. Teams may register at Newman. Entry fee is $30 per team. Registration will end March 10.

CG's golf scramble

You’re invited to play in Maj. Gen. John (Mike) Murray’s four-person scramble March 28 at Hunter Golf Course. The scramble gets under way at noon.

The $35 per person cost includes golf cart fees, driving range and prizes. Players are asked to register by March 27.

Volleyball league

Companies interested in proving which has the best volleyball team on Fort Stewart or Hunter should submit a memo to the Bennett Sports Complex on Stewart or Squires Sports Complex at Hunter. Register by March 31.

Play begins April 7, with games at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For information, call 767-8238 or 315-4160.

 

Color run

Register for an Extreme Color Run on April 5 through at Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Area.

The untimed event will take runners approximately five kilometers through Holbrook’s campground and tank trails. The runners will be “colored” as they pass stations the length of the run. The run will begin at 9 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare the run. To volunteer, call 767-6212.

Run fees are $20 per person until March 24, and $30 later, including race day.

 

Lt. Dan Band

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will be in concert at 5 p.m. April 6 at Donovan Field.

The free concert is presented by the USO in partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation. Bring your own seating. Pets, smoking, grills, coolers, glass bottles and weapons are prohibited. Vendors will be on-site.

 

Power lifting

“The Rock” Power Lifting and Bench Press Competition at Newman Fitness Center is set for April 12. Weigh-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the competition at 10:15.

Contestants will be placed into weight classes and must complete a bench press to qualify for awards. Each competitor will attempt three lifts. The highest overall weight lifted will determine winners.

Registration until March 28 costs $10 and then goes up to $15.

Post-wide garage sale

Registration has begun for the Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Garage Sale 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April 12 at Fort Stewart and Hunter.

There is no charge to register or to sell. Registration puts your sale on a map given to shoppers.

Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell, but everyone can shop.

On-post residents should call the Stewart Sports Office at 767-8238 or Hunter’s Tominac Fitness Center at 315-5078.

 

Babysitting course  

Teens can become certified babysitters by a SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course offered from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. April 14 and 15.

The course is free and will be at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue. Participants must attend both days to be certified.
