Late-night television host Jimmy Fallon opened up about the recent backlash against him in an interview with The New York Times.

Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, said his fans have a right to be mad over how he treated President Donald Trump in interviews.

As The Washington Post reported, Fallon often featured Trump as a guest. One interview included Fallon rubbing Trumps hair, sparking critics to ponder whether or not Fallon was doing the American people justice because he wasnt asking tough questions.

They have a right to be mad, Fallon told The Times. If I let anyone down, it hurt my feelings that they didnt like it. I got it.

Fallon said he didnt ruffle Trumps hair to make light of the president, as many critics suggest.

In fact, he said he thought itd present the opposite effect.

I didnt do it to humanize him. I almost did it to minimize him. I didnt think that would be a compliment.
