Kelly Clarkson joins 'The Voice,' says she wants to beat Blake Shelton

NBC announced Thursday that Kelly Clarkson will join The Voice as a coach, but not for a little while, according to Variety.

The first winner of American Idol will sit alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton for the shows 14th season. Oscar-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson announced shed be on the shows 13th season, which begins in the fall, Variety reported.

Clarkson previously appeared on The Voice as an adviser.

Clarkson announced her decision to join The Voice in a Facebook Live video with current Voice star Blake Shelton. Clark said she hoped to defeat Shelton in her first season.

Weve gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasnt been right until now, she said, according to Variety.

According to Fox News, NBCs early announcement of Clarkson as a coach could be in response to ABC's announcement that it will bring back American Idol just a year after it was canceled by Fox after 15 seasons.

Earlier on Thursday, ABC announced it had interest in hiring Clarkson for the next season of American Idol, according to the Deseret News.

Clarksons representatives said they were trying to clear her schedule so she could film for the show, since the pop singer expressed interest in returning.

Now, it seems Clarkson will join The Voice at around the same time the new Idol season starts, Variety reported.

ABC insiders say the show aims to run on Sundays, with a possible results show on Monday the same night The Voice airs.

The two shows could even find themselves going head-to-head, Variety reported.
