Registration is under way for the CrossFit Fort Stewart Warrior Challenge Oct. 25 on Fort Stewart.

Bend-the-Bar: Registration is under way for the Stewart/Hunter “Bend-the-Bar” Powerlifting and Bench Press Challenge Saturday at 4thIBCT Fitness Center.

The competition is open to men and women, who will compete in 12 weight classes. Participants must be at least 16.

Participants will get a total of three attempts to lift their maximum weight. Winners must have a successful lift in each event.

Weigh-ins will be from 8-9:30 a.m. And the competition begins at 10.

T-shirts will be given to each participant and prizes will be awarded in all weight classes.

Entry costs $20 per person.

Character meet-and-greet

Children can talk to their favorite characters and have their photographs taken with them at a Character Meet & Greet from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Tominac Fitness Center. The cost is $1 per person.

Carnival on Hunter

A four-day, pay-as-you-go carnival is coming to Hunter Sept. 25-28. It will be behind Tominac Fitness Center and will feature adult and children’s rides, concessions and games. Food and games are individually priced.

Hours are 6-10 p.m. Sept. 25, 6-11 p.m. Sept. 26, noon-11 p.m. Sept. 27 and 1-11 p.m. Sept. 28.

No outside coolers or food allowed. You can save by buying tickets in quantity or arm bands for unlimited rides.

National Family Day

Celebrate National Family Day at Corkan Family Fun Center with a deal on laser tag from 3-8 p.m. Sept. 26. The cost is $2 per person. For more information, call 767-4273.

 

Kids fishing

Kids (15 and younger) of military ID cardholders are invited to a fishing event from 7-10 a.m. Sept. 27 at Halstrom Lake on Hunter. Participants can register at the site.

Permits and state licenses will be waived and there is no charge to participate.

There will be a limit of five catfish per child. Prizes and refreshments will be provided free.

A limited amount of bait will be available, along with poles, and will be given out on a first-come basis.

Bodybuilding seminars

Free seminars to help contestants compete in the upcoming The Rock Body Building and Figure Contest are scheduled for 10:30 a.m.-noon on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4 at Newman Fitness Center.

Topics will include mandatory poses, turns, tanning, posing, suit, music selection and more.

In addition, participants will learn about what the judges are looking for. Each seminar will also include a questions and answers.

The contest will be Nov. 1 at Woodruff Theater. It costs $25 to register until Oct. 17 and then $35. Sign up at Newman Fitness Center.

 

Bass tournament

A catch-and-release bass tournament will begin 6:30 a.m. Sept. 27 at Metz Pond at Fort Stewart.

Cash prizes are $250 for first-place and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes and an angler of the year award, based on fish caught during the last four tournaments, will be awarded.

Anglers can fish from the bank or bass boat (trolling motors only). No live bait will be permitted. Boat rentals will be available at Holbrook Equipment Center to military ID cardholders with boat safety certificates. Participants must have Georgia and post fishing permits (unless 15 and younger).

The tournament is open to everyone, even civilians. Registration through Sept. 26 is $25 for soldiers, family members and retirees, and $35 for civilians. Registration will be accepted on-site ate $30 for soldiers, family members and retirees, and $40 for civilians.

Individual stroke tournament

Register by Sept. 24 at Taylors Creek or Cherokee Rose golf courses to play both courses in the 36 hole, two-day Liberty Individual Golf Stroke Play Championship on Sept. 27-28.

Tee times start at 8 a.m. on both days. The $75 per person cost includes 18 holes at both courses, cart fees, plus prizes. Beverages and food will be provided at final round.

Golf 4 Life

Post-Wide garage sale

The Great FMWR Post-Wide Housing Yard Sale, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 4, is a great opportunity to get rid of unwanted items, and make a few dollars.

Register at Fort Stewart Sports Office or Tominac Fitness Center at Hunter to have your sale mapped at http://www.stewartmwr.com and http://www.huntermwr.com at the time of the sale.  There is no charge.

Only residents of post housing are eligible to sell, but everyone, including civilians, can shop.

CrossFit challenge

Registration is under way for the CrossFit Fort Stewart Warrior Challenge on Oct. 25 at Caro Fitness Center. Sign-up closes Oct. 22.

Contestants in eight divisions must complete three high-intensity workouts.

Soldiers, family members and Army civilians can compete.

Get Golf Ready

Enrollment is under way for the October Get Golf Ready program at Hunter Golf Course on Oct. 14, 16, 18, 21 and 23.

The $149 fee includes a one-month membership at the course, a dozen golf balls, and five one-hour instruction sessions on mechanics, putting, the short game, rules and etiquette.

The class is open to beginners and will be limited in number.
