Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas has proclaimed next Saturday “White Cane Day” in the city at the request of the local Lions Club. Many blind and visually impaired people use white canes with a red band at the bottom to assist them when walking. Lions Clubs hold White Cane events to educate the public and raise funds to help the visually impaired become more independent. Thomas read the proclamation Thursday in the presence of Hinesville Lions Club President Cindy Waldrop, left, and her husband, Lions District Director of the Lighthouse Lew Waldrop.
White Cane Day is April 24
