In honor of County Government Month in Liberty County, Donald Lovette, chairman of the Liberty County Commission, invited members of the 2013 class of Young Adult Leadership Liberty to the commission’s April 18 meeting.
YALL members attending were Keith Porter, Jordan Benjamin, Hector Soto, Kelsey Higgason and Megan Gillon. The commissioners recognized the teens for their achievements and selections as participants in this year’s leadership program.
The goal of YALL, which is sponsored by the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, is to promote leadership skills in high-school-aged youth. Members represent all three high schools in Liberty County. This year, participants were engaged in a variety of sessions that offered opportunities to practice making group decisions, learning how to build a community through collaboration, understanding the city of Hinesville and Liberty County governments, and becoming familiar with public health and public education.
They also participated in The Great American Cleanup with Keep Liberty Beautiful and learned about economic development in Liberty County, including tours of SNF/Chemtall and MidCoast Regional Airport at Wright Army Airfield.
The YALL class of 2013, which has 15 members, graduates Friday, May 10.
