Alcohol sales to minors draw probation

Hinesville City Council discussed a number of issues during its meeting last week, including:
•  Juan’s Mexicali, Buffalo’s, The Pit Stop and The Star Lounge will be put on six-month probations for selling alcohol to undercover minors working side by side with the Hinesville Police Department.
• The city council approved a lease agreement with T-Mobile for the placement of a cell tower at the public works department site.
• The city council awarded a $528,000 bid for equipment and vehicles for the street department, parks and grounds, drainage, meter readers, the wastewater treatment plant, and the sanitation department to Waste Lab & Pump.
• During the St. Simon’s annual planning workshop, the city council decided to appoint citizens to enhance public education relative to the storm water utility. Appointments will be made April 19 during the next council meeting.
• The council approved the submission of a grant application for the Next Step Program to provide rental and utility assistance in an effort to combat homelessness. The $48,000 grant would be funded by the city of Hinesville ($18,000) and the DCA program ($38,000) to aid Next Step.
