Assistance for people with disabilities

Living Independence for Everyone is committed to the independence of people with disabilities.
The organization provides independent living skills training to teach individuals how to function independently. It also provides home modifications so individuals can freely move in, out and about their residence. The one barrier left to topple is the lack of rural transportation.
In an effort to bridge the transportation gap, LIFE has begun a rural transportation voucher program. The program provides mileage reimbursement to offset the cost of a driver. The vouchers can be used for medical visits, appointments for grooming, and social or recreational outings that are not paid for by other entities.
Consumers are issued a travel booklet that resembles a checkbook. The booklet consists of slips that resemble checks. The checks have blanks for you to fill in travel information like the driver’s name, mileage and destination. You complete a check for each trip you take to be submitted to LIFE for payment. You choose the individual who drives you. It can be a relative, friend or neighbor. Drivers are paid 45 cents a mile. We ask the consumer to pay a $5 co-pay per 100 miles of travel. There is a limit of 400 miles a month.
Individuals with disabilities in the following counties are eligible to use the program: Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Effingham, Evans, Glynn, Liberty, McIntosh, Tattnall and Toombs.
