Officials with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency sent out a notice Saturday on behalf of Long County leaders.

According to the release residents are advised to disinfect their water before consumption by boiling the water for at least one minute in a clean container.

The water must be brought to a rolling boil, then the minute starts. Additional details about the notice were not released by Long County. The advisory comes after Hurricane Matthew moved along the coast, sending strong winds and heavy rains into the area.

Hurricane Matthew swept through the area, with pounding winds and rain for more than six hours. Matthew skirted the coast and hit Liberty and Long counties as a category two storm.
