Clarke’s Homestyle BBQ Jamaican and American Cuisine opened its new location Aug. 3 at 1008 W. Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville. The restaurant, along with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce, had a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new eatery, which is next door to Harris Ace Hardware, offers a full menu, drinks and meeting spaces.
Clarke’s Homestyle BBQ Jamaican and American Cuisine is owned and operated by John Clarke, who was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and migrated to the United States in 1978. Clarke lived in New York before moving to Georgia with his wife, Charlene Clarke, and children, Jasmine and John lll, in 1995. He is a retired postal worker who said he always dreamed of opening his own business.
Clark said he’s always loved to cook and grill, which he sees as a way to create memories.
During the grand opening, samples were served. Clarke said his signature sauce is a combination of sauces with a Jamaican twist.
The new business was welcomed by the city of Hinesville, the chamber of commerce, community leaders and friends.
