JESUP — The Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia has announced that Dr. J. Matthew Valosen has become a partner in the practice.

“BJI has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past five years. We’re now in four markets and busier than ever. This is the perfect time for Dr. Valosen to become a partner and we couldn’t be happier,” said Dr J. Lex Kenerly, founding partner of BJI.

BJI has served Southeast Georgia for more than 25 years with offices in Jesup and Baxley. In 2012, the Hinesville office opened, and in 2013 another office was opened in Waycross.

Valosen began his career in the U.S. Army and was previously the chief of Orthopedic Surgical Services at Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart. A board certified orthopedic surgeon, Valosen has a military background in treating traumatic and sports related injuries of the musculoskeletal system. He specializes in arthroscopic approaches to most orthopedic conditions, joint replacement surgery and many other orthopedic surgical procedures.

“Since joining the practice in 2012 I’ve looked forward to a partnership role at BJI, and to continue advancing the patient-centered care we provide each and every day,” Valosen said.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Valosen earned his BA degree in biology from Washington and Jefferson College in 1998.

After graduating from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2003 with his MD degree, he entered his surgery residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center on Fort Gordon. finished his residency in 2008, and proceeded to his first and only duty station at Fort Stewart.

During service, Valosen was deployed to Iraq where he was awarded the Bronze Star, and implemented advances in orthopedic care.

Valosen is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, and a member of the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons.
