L.A.A.C. Cakes hosted a grand opening and ribbon cutting April 16 in conjunction with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce at its office at 425 W. Oglethorpe Highway.
L.A.A.C. owner Lisa Thomas welcomed family, friends, chamber staff, ambassadors and members. She makes specialty cakes, wedding cakes, cake pops and cupcakes. Currently, Thomas runs the business and makes all the cakes from scratch.
The company-name initials stand for Lisa, April, Alicia and Cassandra, referring to the owner and her three daughters.
“My passion is baking,” Thomas said. “I hope that the cakes will be as my motto states: ‘Cakes that taste as good as they look’.”
Typically, there is about a week turnaround from the time an order is placed. Thomas, who makes all her cakes and icings fresh, specializes in highly decorated cakes.
Thomas provided samples of her work at the ribbon cutting, including cupcakes, cakepops, a cake shaped like a dog and more.
“I watched baking shows on TV and was surprised when I was able to recreate the designs so easily,” Thomas said.  “A lot of people can make cakes that look good, but then the taste is not there. I want to give people cakes that are both beautiful and delicious.”
“We are pleased to have L.A.A.C. Cakes as a member and very proud of Lisa for becoming the first cottage-food certified operator in Liberty County,” chamber CEO Leah Poole said.
