Courier going to metered paywall

In an attempt to show potential new online readers what the Coastal Courier has to offer in the way of up-to-the-minute updates on intensely local news, sports, features and events, the multimedia company will launch its new metered paywall Saturday, March 1.
“While most of our online news content has been operating under a paid model for some time, implementing a metered paywall will allow viewers to read five articles free per month,” Courier publisher Mark Griffin said. “Current subscribers will see no change and continue to have complete online access along with their print subscription. Now, subscribers to online can have complete access to CoastalCourier.com and the complete newspaper online as well.”
Certain items of community interest — such as obituaries, videos and the Courier’s guide to healthy living, “Living Well” — will remain outside the metered paywall, according to Pat Watkins, Courier web editor.
The metered paywall offers readers several choices for receiving their community’s news. They may subscribe only to the Courier’s website, or they can get the print edition, access to all stories on the Courier website and the complete e-edition, if they so desire, Watkins said.
Griffin said the metered paywall is simply a different way to offer people easier access to the Courier website and to give customers the option of subscribing to a bundled package.
The Courier is running a special 99 cent subscription for a four-week, all-access pass to the newspaper’s website.
Subscriptions also run in three-, six-, and 12-month increments, if readers so desire.
A three-month website subscription is $10.49. Liberty and Long residents can receive a three-month subscription to the home-delivered print product and free website access for $17.
A six-month website subscription is $18.49. Liberty and Long residents can receive a six-month subscription to the home-delivered print product and free website access for $30.
A 12-month website subscription is $27.50. Liberty and Long residents can receive a 12-month subscription to the home-delivered print product and free website access for $52. The full 12-month package for Georgia residents outside Liberty and Long counties is $66. Non-Georgia residents can receive the print product and free website access for $80 a year.
