Homestead exemption deadline nears
Placeholder Image
The filing deadline for homestead exemption and specialized exemptions regarding land is approaching.
Applications must be filed with the assessor’s office by the close of business April 1.
If qualifications and filing deadlines are met, exemptions will be applied to 2009 tax bills.
The deadline to file personal property returns and property tax returns (property owner’s statement of value) is also April 1.
All solid waste exemption applications must be submitted by April 1. Income verification, along with a picture ID, must accompany all applications whether applying in person or via e-mail.
The Liberty County Board of Assessors will be open until 7 p.m. Feb. 11 to accommodate property owners who may otherwise miss the opportunity to file.
Failure to meet filing deadlines will disqualify applicants for approval during the 2009 billing cycle.
Call the assessor’s office at 876-2823 with any questions.
The tax commissioner’s office will mail 2009 mobile home bills within the next few weeks. The bills will have appeal deadlines duly noted so property owners will be aware of the timeframe available to question and/or appeal mobile home values.
