Howard Funeral Home last week held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new chapel that will stand at the corner of Oak and Third streets.
According to owner Ray Howard, the new chapel will have 4,800 square feet of heated space and be able to seat 140 people. He said that construction would begin immediately, and it should be available for use by the summer.
Howard said that by adding the chapel, families will have a place on the premises where services can be held. He said the funeral home celebrated its one-year anniversary April 1, and he is thankful to the community for welcoming it and supporting him and his family.
Calvary Baptist Church Pastor Brian Smith attended the ceremony and prayed for the Howard family and their business.
“I know that this family and this business is already doing God’s work in Long County, and I will pray that their ministry continues to bless our community,” Smith said.
About 20 people, including members of the Long County Chamber of Commerce, attended the ceremony.
The funeral home has two viewing rooms, has caskets available for viewing and conducts embalming on the site. It is behind The Heritage Bank in Ludowici. For more information, call 912-545-2061.
