The Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia held a ribbon cutting Nov. 27 for the opening of its new office at 475 S. Main St. in Hinesville. The ceremony was done in conjunction with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce.

An open house and tours of the facility were attended by more than 50 people.

“We were really overwhelmed by the warm welcome we received at our ribbon cutting,” Dr. J. Lex Kenerly said. “So many folks from Liberty County came out to help us celebrate, and it really just reinforced that we made the right decision to open our next office here.”

BJI partner Dr. J. Matthew Valosen is seeing patients in Hinesville on Tuesdays and Fridays, with other days to be added.

Valosen began his career in the United States Army and was the chief of orthopedic surgical services at Winn Army Community Hospital on Fort Stewart. He specializes in arthroscopic approaches to most orthopedic conditions, joint replacement surgery and many other orthopedic surgical procedures. Valosen earned his doctorate from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2003.

Kenerly, a Jesup native, specializes in sports medicine and total joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder. He is a graduate of Wayne County High School, the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine. After medical school, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at the Greenville Hospital System and Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville, S.C., and returned to his hometown to open his practice, Kenerly Orthopedic Center, where he practiced for more than 20 years. In the summer of 2010, he opened the 15,000-square-foot Bone and Joint Institute of South Georgia in Jesup.

The institute provides orthopedic care and features the Joint Commission-accredited surgery center at the Jesup location, with digital surgical suites designed for orthopedic surgeries, on-site x-ray services and open MRI. BJISG serves 10 Southeast Georgia counties, and also has a satellite office in Baxley.
