Businesses near 196 will get new access

The Georgia Department of Transportation shared its timeline Wednesday for completion of the new Highway 196 interchange at Highway 84, and also said businesses pinched by the relocation will also regain their access driveways once construction is complete.
The project itself has been a long time coming, apparently. GDOT District Communications Officer Cissy McNure said funding for preliminary engineering was authorized in 1992, and public meetings with residents and businesses that would be affected by the change were held in 2001 and 2002. “The majority of comments [made] were regarding median width, drainage, noise and speed,” she said.
