Planning and registration are underway for the annual Scarecrow Rock & stRoll.
The Halloween-themed event, sponsored and organized by the Hinesville Downtown Development Authority, brings more than 15,000 people to the heart of historic downtown for trick-or-treating, hayrides, a scarecrow contest, live music from Mason Jarr Band, and more, making it one of the city’s biggest events of the year.
The festival, which was founded in 2009, runs from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, October 27, and will feature a multitude of activities spread out throughout Bradwell Park: Commerce, Midway, and Main streets; M.L. King Jr. Drive and Central Avenue — all of which will be partially closed to traffic. Area businesses, civic groups, churches, and volunteers are needed to host candy stations, decorate and place scarecrows, and sponsor or facilitate other activities. A detailed schedule map of the activities will be released in the last week of October.
HDDA Executive Director Michelle Ricketson expects this year’s Scarecrow Rock & stRoll to be the city’s biggest and best yet, and she encourages area residents and business owners to get involved and have fun.
“We always have a wonderful time with the Scarecrow Rock & stRoll, but it’s an enormous event that takes a lot of planning and attention to detail,” she said. “We’re counting on the community to support us by signing up to pass out candy, serving as sponsors, helping staff booths, and volunteering to assist with logistics. We need all hands on deck to ensure the event’s success and provide a safe place for local families to enjoy some fall fun.”
