HINESVILLE, Ga. (Jan. 15, 2021) – Recently, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Hinesville for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year that ended Oct. 31, 2019. A Certificate of Achievement for Excellence is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a local government and its management. In order to receive this award, a government must publish an easily readable and efficiently organized comprehensive annual report. The report must satisfy generally accepted accounting principles and applicable legal requirements. “As evidence by this award, we, at the City of Hinesville, are committed to operating a fiscally responsible and transparent government that provides quality services to our citizens,” said City Manager Kenneth Howard. Receipt of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence marks the 15th year that the City has been recognized by GFOA for excellence in financial reporting. The City’s Finance Department, which prepares the CAFR, manages all financial resources for the municipality and safeguards assets through appropriate controls and accounting practices. The Department is responsible for the City’s accounting, purchasing, accounts payable and budgeting. To view the 2019 CAFR, visit cityofhinesville.org.
