A close shave for a good cause
Ameris Bank helps to raise funds for local charity
This is Ameris Bank

Ameris Bank Vice President / Branch Manager III, Danny Creasy got a close shave after helping raise funds for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Program.

At Thursday’s Liberty County Chamber of Commerce Business after Hours event, hosted at Ameris Bank, Creasy had his head shaved completely bald after the group managed to meet the fundraising goal.

Creasy said the goal was to hit $7,500, “And if we do I’m getting my head shaved.” By the end of the night the group had tallied $11,000 in donations.

2018 Best of Liberty winner, Benjamin Vaughn, of Benjamin’s Barber Lounge in Ludowici, took out his golden clippers and several of Creasy’s friends had the opportunity of taking the first swipes, buzzing away locks of his hair.

Vaughn then carefully finished the job with a straight-edged razor.

Liberty Count Sheriff Steve Sikes got emotional when they revealed the amount. The Sheriff’s Community Outreach Program is a 501c3 non-profit used to help meet the needs of many in the community.

Project Lifesaver, a program that provides a specialized monitoring and tracking device for people with Autism, Dementia and Alzheimer’s is just of many projects funded through the non-profit. The device allows law enforcement find people who have wandered off and may not know how to find their way back home.

The Sheriff’s Community Outreach also funds an all-inclusive summer camp for children, holiday meals and gifts for families and children in need, a citizens gun safety course, citizens police academy, the neighborhood watch programs and several others.

“This has turned into something that is meeting the needs of this community,” Sikes said. “It’s been a blessing to the officers to be part of this,” he continued. “They are out there and sometimes they see horror stories in the course of their work.”

Sikes said the LCSO wrapped more than 1,000 gifts for children this past Christmas. He said the Outreach Program has grown to a point where they need financial support from the community. He thanked everyone for helping the program and said raising $11,000 was truly a blessing.

Ameris Bank President, James Rogers said he was proud an honored that Ameris Bank was able to assist. He said his co-workers are like family and that the bank was there to serve the community in any way possible.

Rogers and Creasy introduced their banking team and spoke about the various philanthropic ways the bank has giving back to the folks in Liberty County.

Rogers noted the growth of Ameris Bank throughout the past year. He added that Ameris Bank donated $100,000 last year to help fund Liberty Regional Medical Center’s new Oncology Unit.

“And this year we are committed to give $200,000.00,” Rogers said.

Panera Bread co-hosted the Business after Hours and provided catered meals.
