A Hinesville man was struck and killed Sunday evening while attempting to cross West Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville.

According to Hinesville Police police, the man described as a 53 year old Hinesville resident was attempting to cross the heavily traveled roadway shortly after 7 p.m. when he was struck by a white Scion vehicle on the 1000 block of West Oglethorpe Highway according HPD Traffic Accident Investigator, Corporal Michael Ramirez.


Ramirez said the man was initially struck by the Scion and within minutes was struck by another vehicle when the other driver attempted to avoid hitting the Scion.


The man was pronounced dead at the scene and authorities are not releasing his name until his next of kin is notified. Ramirez said it is too early to determine whether charges will be filed. 

The accident remains under investigation.
