District 5 is the tan portion of the map, sandwiched between the green and blue. Currently, the council seat for District 5 sits empty, and the special election to fill the seat is March 19, 2019.

Early voting closed on Friday, March 15 for the District 5 special election for the City of Hinesville. Election Day for the special election is Tuesday, March 19 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

According to Chief Registrar and Elections Supervisor Ella Golden, 272 residents from District 5 early voted during the early voting period from Feb. 25 to March 15. The computation and canvassing of election returns will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 20. Computation and canvassing is simply the preparation of paperwork to send to the state, Golden said.

District 5 has an estimated 6,000 residents, many of which still need to cast their votes on Election Day. The votes cast on Tuesday will be counted that night, and the results will be posted on the Courier’s website following the election.

All results are unofficial until certified by the Board of Voter Registration and Election, Golden said.
