The front lobby of the Liberty County Voter Registration Office was shoulder-to-shoulder room Friday as advanced-voting week came to an end and residents raced to beat the 5 p.m. deadline.
Nearly 300 voters showed up at the office on the final day of early voting, which brought the county’s total number of advanced voters to 1,027.
According to Liberty County Chief Registrar Ella Golden, it was a demanding week for her and the staff of the voter registration office, but they enjoyed working with the residents to ensure the most efficient voting process, even when technology failed.
“It has been a very busy week, but with lots of joy. Everybody has been very pleasant,” Golden said as she sorted through paperwork and the crowd began to decrease Friday. “Our computers even went down, but people understood and were very nice and cordial (with the staff).”
