Action agencies offer scholarship

The Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority joins with the Georgia Community Action Association in announcing the availability of $1,000 scholarships to be awarded to Georgians who attend a post high school institution or have been accepted at such an educational institution.
The individual must be income eligible, in accordance with Community Services Block Grant guidelines, and be successfully judged as a winner in an essay contest. The essay, “What has the Community Action Movement Meant to My Community,” should be no more than three typewritten pages, double-spaced. Individual’s name, address, telephone number, name and address of attending/accepting post-high school educational institution must accompany essay on a separate piece of paper. The individual’s name must not appear on the essay itself.
Deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on June 1.
The Georgia association is a professional association composed of 20 member agencies, including the Coastal CAA.

Essay scoring
Essays will be rated and ranked according to the following:
1. History (0-25 points)
2. Impact of movement (0-50 points)
3. How I view community action in the 21st Century (0-25 points)

Additional information
1. Scholarships will be paid to educational institution
2. Winner will be invited to attend the GCAA Conference on July 26 in Savannah and the scholarship will be awarded during the banquet. Recipient will read their essay at the time of the award.
3. The nominating agency will be responsible for providing transportation to the conference for the recipient, if necessary
4. GCAA will pay per diem and lodging costs for recipient participating in the conference
CSBG poverty income guidelines effective this year are: Single person, $10,210; two people in family, $13,690; three, $17,170; four, $20,650; five, $24,130; six, $21,610; seven, $31,090; eight, $30,960; each additional member, add $3,480
