Bradwell Institute received the Governor’s Cup earlier this school year for “significant three-year average gains in critical reading and math SAT scores,” according to the award letter from Gov. Sonny Perdue.

Bradwell students’ SAT scores have increased for the past three years, resulting in a 21-point gain since 2005. Being selected as a regional winner, the school was afforded a trophy and a $1,000 grant.

BI Principal Dr. Vicki Albritton said the grant money will “go for SAT prep material for teachers to use in their classroom.” Albritton made sure to show students the trophy, as a way to “say thank you because you’re the ones who made it all possible.”

She said the school does all it can to provide students with the most opportunity for success. Students are encouraged to retake the SAT for higher scores and Albritton said faculty and staff “try to add more higher level classes and higher level thinking skills in classrooms.” The Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. sponsors the Governor’s Cup challenge.
