On March 13, Bradwell Institute presented an annual Music in our Schools Month concert.
Music enveloped the commons area of Bradwell Institute with performances from the BI women's and mixed choruses and the BI symphonic band, as well as the Bradwell trio and quartet.
The women's chorus, under the direction of Amanda Durden and accompanist Rodney Powers, took the stage first with two musical selections that they had performed for judges at Armstrong Atlantic State University for the annual Georgia Music Educator Association District 1 chorus performance evaluations on March 11.
The last song performed by the women's chorus was "In the Highlands" by Butler. They received a tremendous round of applause, as the display of vocal ability and pitch control was nothing less than superb.
The symphonic band, under the direction of Daryl Wolfram, performed a selection next and gave a solid performance.
The mixed chorus brought the crowd to their feet in applause after performing a selection of "Soon-ah Will Be Done" by Dawson. The mixed chorus had performed this selection for judges at the chorus evaluations and earned all superior rating.
There were other selections from the symphonic band and mixed chorus, wind ensemble, men's literary quartet and trio.
The highlight of the night was the men's literary quartet. These four young men wowed the crowd with a performance of "Vive L'Amour" by Parker/Shaw. The vocal ability of the quartet was outstanding.
As a performer myself I can say without any reservations that Bradwell's music department is one of the best in the area. I have traveled with the chorus for four years and have seen them compete against schools a lot bigger and with a lot larger budget and still come out on top.
If you would like to hear the Bradwell chorus for yourself, they will present the last concert of the year on May 15 at the Hinesville First United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m.
