While studying the virtue of generosity in December, the Savannah Country Day School fifth graders collected 77 coats for children in South Africa. The coats were presented to Linnie Darden Jr. of the Southeast Georgia Mission.
Darden visited Country Day on Jan. 11 to thank the fifth graders for their efforts and explain how the coats would be distributed to needy children in the villages surrounding Port Elizabeth.
He said the students asked many questions regarding the nature of his work and the people of South Africa.
The mission trip is planned for March. Darden plans to make a second visit to the Country Day campus to update the fifth graders on his mission work and show them photographs of the children who receive the coats.
Darden holds a master's degree in psychology from the University of California at Berkley and has more than 30-years teaching experience. Since 2001, Darden has been doing mission work in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He lives in Hinesville and is the father of Juvenile Court Judge Linnie Darden III.
