Head Start taking applications

The Head Start program is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 school year.
 This program is administered by the Coastal Georgia Area Community Action Authority, Inc., at 1 Community Action Drive in Brunswick.
This agency operates 10 centers in nine counties, presently funded to serve 917 pre-school children. Head Start centers are in Bryan, Camden, Evans, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, Wayne and Tattnall counties.
This approach is also suited to help children with special needs. In addition, the program offers two meals and a snack daily, parent involvement activities, disability services, health and dental exams as well as speech and language screenings.  There is no cost to parents for this program.
Children applying for Head Start must be at least 3 years old and not older than 5 on or before Sept. 1.  
Applications may be completed at the center.  The following documents will be required: birth certificate, proof of income (2008 tax form, W-2, three consecutive pay stubs, employer letter, Social Security, DFCS or child support documents etc.), Georgia immunization certificate (form 3231) and, if applicable, a physician’s letter for any special needs and the child’s Social Security number.
For enrollment, you will need to bring the following documents: physical exam, dental exam, and current Medicaid, PeachCare or private insurance card, if applicable.
