Joseph Martin Elementary recently formed its first student council.
Teachers nominated students from their homerooms. Hinesville Mayor Jim Thomas visited the school and spoke with students about his role in the community in order to give council members a better understanding of what a leader does. Council members discussed ways they could help both their school and the community.
Thomas then invited the students to visit him at city hall where they could see leaders in action. On Oct. 15, Principal Kathy Moody and Assistant Principal Brittney Mobley took the 63 council members to visit the city-hall conference room, meet workers in each department and tour the Hinesville Room.
