Joshua Atkins, a fourth-grader at Joseph Martin Elementary, understands how important it is to listen, concentrate and use time-management skills.

His teacher, Elaine Dasher, encourages and motivates students as she introduces the standard/element for each lesson taught.

While completing chores on his parents' farm, Joshua uses skills he has learned in school such as calculating perimeter and area, understanding the characteristics of geometric figures, measuring distance, comprehension of information read, identifying simple machines and explaining their uses (lever, pulley, wheel, gear, etc). Joshua said he is having so much fun he forgets he's working.
