Three Liberty County High School students will accompany Waldo Pafford fourth-grade teacher Nicole Carter to New York this summer to compete in a competition sponsored by the NAACP.
It is called ACT-SO and they will compete against other students from across the nation in the areas of drama, singing and dance. They are Hillary Scales (vocal and drama), Sideeq Heard (drama) and Jerrica Russaw (dance).
The Afro-Academic Cultural Technological and Scientific Olympics program was founded in 1978 by author and journalist Vernon Jarrett.
ACT-SO provides a forum through which African-American youth can demonstrate academic, artistic, and scientific prowess and expertise, often gaining recognition reserved for entertainers and athletes.
The competitions this year is in July.
