Georgia schools affected by Hurricane Irma will be given free meals through the end of September.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture made the announcement Sept. 19 and included additional allowances in the federal nutrition programs in Georgia and Florida.

According to the press release free school meals will be provided in 35 counties which includes Liberty and Long counties.

Amanda Underwood, Long County School Food Director, said free meals are being offered to students through regular service in the lunchroom.

“Students will type in their lunch number but will not be charged from Sept. 18—29,” Underwood said.
