Jeffrey Lopez and David Purcur of the Liberty County High School Panther Band participated in the Georgia State Honor Band competition and were selected for the State High School Honor Band.
The process began with District 1 Honor Band tryouts at South Effingham
High School on Dec. 13. Fourteen students from LCHS were named to the District Honor Band. Of the 14 students selected, seven were asked to participate in the state competition on Jan. 10, at Houston County High School in Warner Robbins.
About 500 band members competed for District 1 honors and about 1,500 students competed at the state level.
Sophomore Jeffrey Lopez plays the tenor saxophone and senior David Purcur plays the tuba. The Georgia State Honor Band will play a concert in March in Savannah.
